Rum Syrup

1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 slice lemon
1 slice orange
1 cinnamon stick
1 1-inch piece vanilla bean
1/2 cup rum
Recipe by: Craig Claiborne - The New York Times Cook Book 1. Bring all the ingredients except the rum to a boil, stiring until the sugar has dissolved. Simmer five minutes. 2. Strain and add the rum.
