Butterscotch Bran Nut Squares

1/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 each egg
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup nut meats
1/4 cup bran
Cream shortening. Add sugar and cream well. Add egg and beat. Add dry ingredients, nuts and bran. Spread in shallow pan, bake about 30 minutes, at 350 F. Cut into suqares and roll in confectioner's sugar.
