Butterscotch Cookies

1/2 cup butter
2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cup flour - sifted
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
Cream butter, add sugar and then add eggs and vanilla. Sift flour with cream of tartar and baking soda and add to first mixture. Form into a roll and allow to stand in ice box overnight. Slice thinly and bake on a greased baking sheet in moderate oven (375 F) for 10 minutes.
